Gel candles
Gel candles burn at a much slower rate than those which utilize vegetable waxes or traditional paraffin waxes. They are known for their unique translucent appearances. The material used in these is actually thickened mineral oil. Special polymers are responsible for this thickening.
The distinct differences which gel candles offer as compared to traditional options are basically that they are clear and slower burning. The transparent appearance offers a lot of aesthetic possibilities. While the length of burn time can just as easily be a liability or a benefit. In general, they burn twice as slowly as traditional options.
Gel candles are rumored to pose additional fire and injury hazards as compared to standard types. These rumors are true to a certain extent, although the exact causes of such problems are often misunderstood. It is a fact that the containers holding such candles may explode due to heat expansion, particularly if such containers are created from glass. As with all candles, common sense and caution should be exercised with their use.
